The Joy of almonds
Almonds have as much protein per ounce as red meat. Adding almonds into your diet has shown to help reduce the risk of heart attacks by as much as 50%. This result is due to the good-for-your-heart vitamin E found in almonds. Monounsaturated fats can decrease your bad LDL cholesterol levels and increase your good HDL cholesterol levels. Antioxidants help keep your arteries young. website
The FIT Formula:
Be sure to stay active and healthy this season!
F = frequency (days per week) I = intensity (how hard, e.g., easy, moderate, vigorous) or percent of heart rate T = time (amount for each session or day)

| YOU could be the next SAC! |
At General Assembly our area will vote on a new Area 11 Student Advisory Committee (SAC) representative for the area. If you like leadership and working with others you should really consider running for SAC at GA. If you have any questions, email me at area11sac@bacchusnetwork.org an I'll let you know all about being an SAC! | |
Dear Area11,
Welcome back! I hope that everyone's academic school year is off to a great start as well as your peer health education programs. The first few weeks of the fall are a great time to start making an impact on your campus by programming and tabling from the very first day. Be sure jump right in to the new semester and send a strong health message!
Also keep in mind that General Assembly (GA) is coming up in November. Although it seems far away now, it is a good time to start fundraising and preparing programs for the fall so that you can have the best experience!
Sincerely,
Kylie Morris, Area 11 SAC

From your Student Trustees...
You will hear General Assembly be promoted as an opportunity to learn, meet other peer educators, and rejuvenate you passion for peer education. It is, and so much more! Another opportunity that is overlooked by many peer educators at General Assembly is the chance to give a presentation. This is a perfect opportunity to represent your school, learn more about a topic, and push yourself to a new experience. Remember the premise of peer education: we love learning from one another! Everyone brings their A-game to General Assembly, and from our experiences of presenting at past GAs, this just makes you want to work that much harder to give an awesome presentation. The final result? A great sense of accomplishment, a new niche of expertise, and a great resume builder! You can present on an event that has been particularly successful on your campus, put a new spin on an old topic, or educate us on a new topic that you think is important. BACCHUS would not be successful if we were not all constantly sharing ideas, so we look forward to hearing yours in November! Remember: Call for programs are due by Monday, September 21. |
What can I do at General Assembly (GA)? What can't you do at GA!
General Assembly (GA) this year is being held in Orlano, Florida at the Doubletree Hotel with the theme: Superheroes for Health and Safety! (Costumes are encouraged :) ) GA will be held from Nov. 5-8, 2009 and it will be a great opportunity for students and advisors alike! Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training will be available for $55 on Thursday and Friday for students interested in certification. Groups may also submit programs and/or school exhibits to present during the weekend and really be a part of the programming! During the conference there will be over 70 educational sessions including keynote speakers and breakout sessions. There will also be and awards ceremony so be sure to tell us how awesome your outstanding student, advisor, alumnus/a, or program or your overall chapter is so that you all can be recognized by all. And don't forget that you will have most evenings free to explore the Orlando area with the Universal CityWalk dining and entertainment area just a short walk away from the hotel!
Also, remember that scholarships are available to those who apply for them early so be sure to send in scholarship applications to help you get to GA!
