START PLANNING NOW FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2008 IN COLUMBUS OHIO!
2007 General Assembly Summary
An enthusiastic 750 conference participants representing 150 campuses made their way to Atlanta, Georgia, to experience some of the best ideas being implemented by peer educators on college campuses. More than 70 educational breakout sessions were offered, along with 2 keynotes,1 panel, and 6 featured speakers during the Assembly. Our conference opened Thursday evening with a highly energizing program, “Inspirational Comedy”, hosted by Judson Laipply, professional speaker and BACCHUS alum.
Two morning keynote addresses on Friday and Saturday captivated participants. René Hicks taught us that laughter can assist in crossing social and cultural barriers that contribute to isolation and ignorance. Andrea Mosby used the acronym DECISIONS to remind students of the factors they must consider when making important personal choices that lead to a healthy, smart future. The professionals’ lunch panel featured speakers on mental health from The Heard: Ross Szabo, John Kevin Hines, Martha Valasquez, and Keisha Zollar.
Our six professional featured speakers shared their passion and talents on a variety of student health and safety concerns. On Friday afternoon, we hosted Mike Green on alcohol abuse issues, Robin Sawyer on communication and relationships, and Deana Latson on nutrition. During the Saturday afternoon featured speakers showcase, Kevin Snyder examined eating disorders. Michael Gershe talked about how impaired driving changed his life forever. Cathy Robinson Pickett examined the HIV/AIDS issue for students. All of these fine quality educators contributed to a rich and successful educational program.
