Hey Area 11,
Hopefully everyone had a
relaxing summer and is ready for a new year!
General Assembly (GA) is in
Columbus, Ohio this year and will be November 13th -
16th. GA is a great opportunity for student groups to
get together and share their programs.
Get
involved with GA as much as possible. Let others at GA
know about your peer education group. Your group could take
home a much coveted award. All you have to do is enter the
table competition, take part in the BACtail contest, or
nominate your group for an outstanding program. These contests
also serve as a great team builder.
The Area 11 SAC Election will
take place during General Assembly. If you are
interested in running for SAC, you must attend the general
interest meeting on Thursday night. Going to this meeting does
not mean that you must run, but not going means you can't run.
If you are interested in the SAC position don't hesitate to
contact the current Area 11 SAC Representative via facebook
and you are encouraged to attend the general interest meeting
at GA.
FACEBOOK
Did you know that BACCHUS has a facebook global group
available for its 35,000-plus students? Here are the top five
reasons for you to join.
1.You are part
of an immense network, so get the benefits of
networking. Ask questions, communicate ideas, and meet fellow
peer educators! *My personal definition of networking is
getting to have fun and meet great people and then call it
working:) yay!
2. Stay up-to-date with everything
going on at the national and area levels of BACCHUS.
3. You can't turn off being a peer educator--you
know you're always educating--so go ahead and make it a part
of your facebook profile. Show your support and pride as part
of a national network of students who know that being peer
educators is important to them.
4. Facebooking is fun!
5. Get to know your area of peer educators so you can
share ideas for area conferences, plan carpools to General
Assembly, or block schedule speakers for lower fees!
You work too hard as a peer educator to ignore a
resource for feeling better about what you do and improving
what you do. Sign on, ask questions, and join discussions with
students (and some advisors) from across the country. To join
the group, search "The BACCHUS Network" as a global group. See
you on facebook!

Minimum
Legal Drinking Age
The minimum legal drinking age (MLDA), also
referred to as the Age 21 laws, refers to the Uniform
Drinking Age Act of 1984. While state laws set the legal
drinking age in their own jurisdictions, the Uniform
Drinking Age Act encouraged states to set the age at 21
by restricting federal transportation funds from those
states that maintained a lower drinking age.

Professionalism What is it?
A general, raw view of professionalism is, "a
focused, accountable, confident, competent, motivation
toward a particular goal, with respect for hierarchy and
humanity, less the emotion." What this means is that you
leave out the outbursts and emotional thralls that
accompany stressful situations and success. You maintain
focus, with a sense of urgency, and accept
responsibility on a path toward a specific goal. In the
process, you maintain respect for your superiors, peers,
and subordinates as well as respect them as human
beings. Read Full

The
Amethyst Initiative
It's time to
rethink the drinking age? The Amethyst Initiative supports informed
and unimpeded debate on the 21 year-old drinking age.
Amethyst Initiative presidents and chancellors call upon
elected officials to weigh all the consequences of
current alcohol policies and to invite new ideas on how
best to prepare young adults to make responsible
decisions about alcohol use. Amethyst
